After Moscow, I wanted to get back home to New York City to celebrate my 21st birthday with my family before I take my next flight to Mexico. I was able to stay, but unfortunately, they sang me my birthday song right before I left the house with my backpack and passport in my hand. I never got a chance to taste the cake but who cares I got an amazing 6 weeks’ journey in front of me.
but because of the flight’s crazy changes and delays I had to arrive in Mexico City before my travel buddy. So, I just went out there to discover Mexico city all alone. (Yassss! totally outta my comfort zone)
I ordered an Uber (Yes, I know I didn’t think Mexico had Uber services, but they did) and booked a fair priced hotel while using the Starbuck’s wifi in the airport. To be honest I wasn’t gonna wait for 5 more hours extra till the next flight arrives!
I was able to book a fair priced hotel room for one night near the airport for 50 bucks a night. (I was desperate for some sleep and a hot shower after missing my second flight from Dallas to Mexico City and leaving on the next available one; the next morning)
Did I mention that my 30 minutes ride cost me 4 dollars! the peso is extremely cheap to the dollar, the exchange rate was 15 pesos to 1 dollar!
But as long as I got some strong Mexican coffee, everything was cool and I was singing “don’t worry, be happy” the whole time. LOL (Do you see that beautiful cup! OMG I need one. Wish I bought one!)
The hotel had a cafe where organic Mexican and international cuisine are prepared right in front of you. (I truly felt like I was home for a second there, it was just like my mother preparing me a meal when I was little, the weird thing is that the cook looked exactly like my mother! Weird. I just kept staring at her surprised of how similar they looked, or maybe I was just home sick from my 3 months of back to back traveling! who knows.)
The worst thing about traveling is that you fail to sync your photos before your phone crashes and dies 🙁 Yes, I had soo many pictures from Mexico City but lost them all and now they’re all just memories to keep in my heart <3 Sorry Next stop, Veracruz!

We were surprised by how much we loved Mexico City for the food, sites and people. Can’t wait to go back for more!
I can’t believe they have Uber! So, sorry about your phone and pictures…I just came back from vacation to find our memory card had crashed. It’s so heart-breaking.
I have never been to Mexico City, but I hope to make it there soon. I’ll have to look up details from your trip to Moscow! 🙂
I’ve been through Mexico City, and ridden a bus out of there, but never spent any real time there. Sorry you lost your photos!!! Serious bummer. But it sound like you enjoyed the time there before you caught your next flight.
Oh so sorry to hear about your photos! And nice reading that Mexico has allowed Uber to be there. Good info.;) Better luck next time…
I understand your pain as far as the cell phone goes. I seriously thought my iPhone had crashed this weekend while we were away on a little getaway. And miraculously it started working again. (Yay!) And I had no idea that it was so cheap to stay and travel around Mexico! Can you believe that I haven’t been there yet?? I need to get on that already. 😉
Oh no, that stinks about your photos! I would be devastated. Cute story about the chef looking like your mom. My guess is that you were, in fact, a bit homesick 🙂
